Meet Our Local Maker "John Andrews (Doodlepalooza)"

John Andrews is a talented graphic designer, painter, and printmaker based in St. John's, Newfoundland. His works are well known throughout the province and beyond, and his unique style has captured the attention of art enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Andrews' artistic journey began at a young age when he discovered a passion for drawing and painting. He pursued his interests further by studying fine arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, where he honed his skills in a variety of mediums including printmaking, painting, and graphic design.

After completing his studies, Andrews returned to Newfoundland and began working as a freelance graphic designer, using his skills to create unique branding and advertising campaigns for local businesses. His attention to detail and creative approach quickly earned him a reputation as one of the best designers in the region.

In addition to his graphic design work, Andrews continued to create his own artwork, experimenting with various styles and mediums. He is particularly known for his bold, vibrant paintings that depict Newfoundland landscapes and seascapes in a way that is both realistic and stylized. He often incorporates elements of abstraction and expressionism into his work, creating a unique style that is instantly recognizable.

Andrews' printmaking work is also highly regarded, with his etchings and screen prints being featured in numerous exhibitions and galleries. He has a talent for creating intricate and detailed prints that capture the essence of his subjects, from the rugged coastlines of Newfoundland to the bustling streets of St. John's.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Andrews' work is his ability to capture the essence of Newfoundland and its people. His paintings and prints are infused with a deep sense of nostalgia and appreciation for the province's history and culture. He often depicts traditional Newfoundland homes, fishing boats, and other iconic images, giving viewers a glimpse into the region's past while also celebrating its present.

Andrews' work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Newfoundland and beyond. His paintings and prints can be found in private collections and public institutions across Canada, including the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Rooms Provincial Art Gallery.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Andrews is also a passionate advocate for the arts community in Newfoundland. He has served on the board of directors for various arts organizations and is committed to promoting and supporting emerging artists in the region.

Overall, John Andrews is a true talent in the Newfoundland art scene. His unique style and passion for the province and its people have made him a beloved figure among art enthusiasts and collectors alike. Whether he is creating a graphic design project for a local business or working on a new painting, Andrews' dedication to his craft is evident in everything he does.
